Inhalt: In this 4 session course, we will look at practical audio-visual techniques required in making a short form film. Through a variety of short workshop exercises in class the emphasis will be on making individual and team work within a short period of time and covering basic techniques along the way - learning by doing and gaining confidence by producing work. As inspiration we will look beyond main stream media at the work of film-makers from a variety of different fields, periods and contexts from early cinema to experimental film and music videos, artist film and video, cine-poems and film-essays as well as documentaries, and more traditional narrative films. At the end of the course students will be recquired to make a 5 minute short film or audio-visual work over the rest of the semester and summer break, the nature of which will become apparent through the course. This years’ focus on accessibility will also be touched on - although the theme of the content of students’ work will be open to the students’ own areas of interest. During class, equipment is slightly limited to what students can bring and we will work with techniques that aren’t necessarily specific to one editing software. As Davinci Resolve is a freely available software this will be the main editing software used, unless students have their own video editing software (like Premiere) that they feel more comfortable with. Similarly if students have cameras they can use these, but a smartphone-camera will also suffice for working quickly in class.
