Inhalt: The early feminist insight that personal issues are rooted in political matters remains at the heart of autoethnography, a qualitative research methodology that uses researchers' personal experiences to explore cultural phenomena shaping their everyday lives. In these writing exercises, participants will engage with the statement "the personal is political" by using transformative autoethnography to identify and analyze structures of power embedded in their concrete everyday lives and in relation to their intersectional identities. Autoethnography is used today across many different disciplines, including the field of transformative research. At the core of autoethnography is the practice of reflexivity, which means that researchers reflect on themselves as researchers, situate themselves as subjects in the research process, and consider how their perspectives influence the outcome of their research. With its focus on demonstrating that reality is subjective and multiple, autoethnography emphasizes the social construction of knowledge, using personal experiences and individual memories as main sources of knowledge. An aim of autoethnography is to increase self-understanding and self-awareness through reflexive writing other techniques that students will be taught in this course.

Inhalt: This exercise aims to create a space where art and science, theory and practice, process and product are equally valued. It is a space in which autoethnographic writing is explored as a transformative research method to gain knowledge about the social forces that shape our thoughts, feelings, and actions in everyday life. The writing exercises range from journaling to timelining to storytelling. By developing reflective writing as a daily practice, students will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between personal transformation and broader cultural, environmental, social, economic, and political transformations. Key theoretical concepts in these practical exercises include reflexivity, positionality, vulnerability, and memory. We will engage with memory work to write about personal transformations from an autoethnographic perspective, with the explicit goal of bringing about a more inclusive and sustainable society.
