Inhalt: Blues, Jazz und Soul sind musikalischer Ausdruck einer unterdrückten gesellschaftlichen Minderheit. Das Seminar untersucht, welche gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen zur Entwicklung von Free Jazz und Soul, also originärer afro-amerikanischer musikalischer Kunst, in den 50er- und 60er-Jahren geführt haben.

Inhalt: In dem Seminar soll am Beispiel historischer und gegenwärtiger Musikinstrumente die ethnologische Entwicklung von Klang, Spieltechnik, Einsatzmöglichkeit und Wandel im der Herstellung erarbeitet werden. Neben der historischen Perspektive wird auch eine geographische eingenommen, da durch die Verbreitung von Melodien und Musikinstrumenten eine kulturpoltische Bewegung erkennbar wird, die von musiksoziologischer Bedeutung ist.
