Inhalt: The aim of this seminar is to introduce students to the cultural study of experiencing electronic dance music events. Particular emphasis is placed on the ways in which the central dance experience of the party is influenced not only by the music but also by spatial contexts and recreational drug use. The first two classes explore the historical particularities of electronic music genres and scenes, the use of urban and natural spaces, and the drug cultures surrounding the events. The third and fourth seminars are focused on media representations, moral panics and the methodological approaches to researching electronic dance music culture.
