Inhalt: The aim of this module is to introduce the students to the concept of arts audiences, focusing in both theoretical as well as practical issues. During the course of the semester, students will become familiar with both the theoretical underpinnings, related concepts and issues around arts audiences, as well as practical ways to investigate audiences for, and in, cultural organisations. The course is divided in three, sometimes overlapping and complementary, sections: one will discuss the theoretical concepts and terms associated with arts audiences; the other will discuss practical ways of approaching audiences from the point of cultural organisations and will examine work practices, projects and case studies; the third will explore practical ways with which it is possible to investigate audiences for the arts and discuss empirical work to that end. The module will also tackle timely issues affecting arts audiences in different ways such as digitization, and the various changes in arts audiences as a result of coronavirus. Various examples of organisations and audience research that provide useful information for the content of the module are also included in the material of the course.
