Inhalt: The course stresses the relevance of the linkage between theories and methods in Comparative Politics in the domain of contentious politics. The seminar provides insights into conducting comparative analyses on political mobilization and conflict processes. In class, we focus on the underlying logic of theoretical arguments and how researchers evaluate them. We then examine the relationship between theory and evidence, measurement, and research designs. We scrutinize implications entailed by different theories and arguments on contentious politics and think of ways to evaluate the consistencies with empirical patterns. Students should actively engage with the readings and are expected to work throughout the seminar.
