Liberation Commemoration and Musical Practices Across Europe After World War II" (Seminar)

Inhalt: The end of fascism has been celebrated in several countries in Europe after WW II, and music has always been an important part of these public events. We will explore the history of liberation commemoration and music by looking at festivals in Italy, the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic and Germany. We will also reflect on the political and cultural reception of liberation and its relevance in broader society, including the perspectives of survivors of the Nazi regime (and their audibility) as well their relatives, memory cultural activists and not least, musicians (sometimes, these categories of social, cultural and political background overlap). Please be aware that April 25 is planned to be replaced by a project date on Wednesday, May 8 at the Leuphana campus, starting at 5 p.m.
