Transformation – What is it, what was it, what should it be? (Seminar)

Inhalt: “Transformation” has not only become a popular buzzword used to summarize different concepts that are intended to respond to the “multiple crises” of the present: from climate change to threats to democracy to (economic) issues of equality and justice; it is postulated that a transformation is necessary to ensure the survival of humanity on this planet! But what exactly does “transformation” mean here? What is to be transformed - and what can be transformed at all? Moreover: Is it also possible that in some areas a “transformation” must be prevented in order to prevent the crisis - such as the climate crisis - from becoming a catastrophe? Finally, is it also possible that it is already too late for a transformation? It is worth examining and discussing the theoretical (and practical) implications of the concept of transformation: When did we start talking about trasnformation? Who introduced the term? What scientific foundations do transformation theories refer to?

Inhalt: »Transformation« ist nicht nur mittlerweile ein beliebtes Schlagwort, mit dem unterschiedliche Konzepte zusammengefasst werden, mit denen auf die »multiplen Krisen« der Gegenwart reagiert werden soll: vom Klimawandel über Demokratiegefährdung bis zu (ökonomischen) Fragen der Gleichheit und Gerechtigkeit; postuliert wird: um das Überleben der Menschhehit auf diesem Planeten zu sichern, ist eine Transformation notwendig! Doch was bedeutet hierbei »Transformation« eigentlich genau? Was soll transformiert werden – und was kann überhaupt transformiert werden? Überdies: Kann es auch sein, dass in manchen Bereichen nachgerade eine »Transformation« verhindert werden muss, um die Krise – wie etwa die Klimakrise – nicht zur Katastrophe werden zu lassen? Schließlich: Kann es auch sein, dass es womöglich für eine Transformation schon zu spät ist? Es lohnt sich, den Begriff der Transformation auf seine theoretischen (und praktischen) Implikationen hin zu überprüfen und zu diskutieren: Seit wann ist von Transformation die Rede? Wer hat das Wort als Begriff eingeführt? Auf welche wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen beziehen sich die Transformationstheorien?
