Digitalization Strategies of Preserving History and Culture in Archives, Libraries and Museum (Seminar)

Inhalt: This course will enlight the participants more than basics about the value, technics und practise of digitization processes currently are used for the digital preservation of ancient records, culture and heritage in the three cultural institutions of archives, libraries and museum. The steps of the implementation of digitization actions will be in the focus of the course: on which selection criterias these institutions make the decision to digitize the cultural properties? Which national and international standards are important for the digital strategies? Which technical methods of digitization can be used? What are (dis-)advantages and concerns for the long therm preservations for the mankind? These and more important aspects will be in the focus of the lecture and the discussions. Cause of the literature, terminology and the wordwide evidence of a common language of digitization the course will be in English.
