Inhalt: Today, many people entering the workforce seek careers that not only provide personal fulfillment but also create a positive impact on society and the environment (Yeoman et al., 2019). Initiatives like 80,000 Hours, rooted in the effective altruism movement, exemplify this growing interest by offering research-based guidance on how to pursue careers that maximize societal benefit. This seminar explores the intersection of entrepreneurial thinking and meaningful careers, encouraging students to approach their career paths as entrepreneurial projects with both personal and societal impact in mind. The course draws on two complementary approaches. First, students will engage with cutting-edge scientific research from psychology, management, and organization studies to understand the theoretical foundations of meaningful work and careers. Second, in a hands-on, entrepreneurial format, students will design a multi-modal product (e.g., a workshop concept, short movie, podcast, art project, or event format) that addresses a specific question or challenge related to creating or navigating meaningful careers. This project-based approach mirrors entrepreneurial ventures, emphasizing iterative development, creativity, and problem-solving with a focus on producing tangible outcomes. Throughout the seminar, students will critically explore questions such as: How can entrepreneurial strategies support the search for meaningful careers? What personal, organizational, and societal factors influence meaningful work? What are the ethical tensions and potential downsides of striving for meaningfulness in professional life? Objectives: 1. Understand and critically engage with scientific perspectives on meaningful work and careers. 2. Apply entrepreneurial thinking to explore how personal career paths can contribute to positive societal impact. 3. Develop skills in presentation, discussing scientific literature, and collaborative project design.
