Manipulation, Persuasion and Social Influence (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Social Influence is one of the most pervasive and powerful mechanisms for attitude and behavior change. The aim, of course, is to learn why and under what conditions an individual's thoughts and actions can be influenced by those around them. I will present some of the theories and key research findings in the field of persuasion and social influence through the lens of social psychology. We will apply the tools – to check them, experience them, and learn about compliance-gaining techniques! Besides learning about different experimentally tested social influence tactics, students will also learn about the unethical side of using social influence, coercion and manipulation (e.g., in cults, frauds, etc.).

Leadership Skills and Gender Differences (Seminar)

Inhalt: Can everyone be a good leader? For sure not, but we can improve some of our skills to be better ones. During the course, students can explore themselves in the context of leadership. I will propose exercises and workshops to find some gaps and space to improve yourself. The emphasis in the course is on the practice of leadership. The course will examine topics such as understanding leadership, recognising leadership traits, engaging people’s strengths, understanding philosophy and styles, attending to tasks and relationships, developing leadership skills, and creating a vision. In discussing the topics, great emphasis is placed on the issues of gender diversity and gender differences. Students will assess their leadership traits and skills to improve their own leadership performance. During each seminar, we will start with a test or questionnaire to assess some of your traits or skills. All of those results will create your leadership portfolio.
