Inhalt: The course is divided into two parts. The first part is lecture based and presents basics in labor market and social policy. In the second part, students discuss several topics in labor market and social policy. Textbooks and journal articles serve as a basis and should be presented in class. The course is structured as follows: Part I: Basics in Labor Market and Social Policy (Lectures) 1. Examples and Statistics for Labor Market and Social Policy (unemployment benefits, minimum wages, labor law, social assistance, retirement system, education, healthcare, …) 2. Rationales for Labor Market and Social Policy 2.1. Ethical and Fairness Arguments (ethics, social justice, inequality, solidarity, …) 2.2. Economic Arguments (welfare perspective, insurance, inequality, incentives, productivity, welfare effects, redistribution, taxation, median voter model, …) 3. Some Economic Basics 3.1.
