Inhalt: This course provides an introduction to international trade theory and policy. Issues that will be addressed, among others, are the gains from trade, the reciprocity of international trade and market structures, competition and income inequality. Furthermore, trade policy institutions and instruments will be presented and general arguments for free trade and trade restrictions will be discussed against the background of current trade policy. Participants will also be given an insight into econometric research methodologies and recent results in the field. Topics covered: Part 1: International Trade Theory - Labor Productivity and Comparative advantage: The Ricardian Model - Specific Factors and Income Distribution - Resources and Trade: The Heckscher-Ohlin Model - The Standard Trade Model - External Economies of Scale and the International Location of Production - Firms in the Global Economy: Export Decisions, Outsourcing, and Multinational Enterprises Part 2: International Trade Policy - The Instruments of Trade Policy - The Political Economy of Trade Policy - Trade Policy in Developing Countries - Controversies in Trade Policy
