Inhalt: This course will examine the relationship between narrative and memory while paying particular attention to the contemporary articulation of nostalgia. Whereas sentimentality is a vague fondness for the past nostalgia carries with it a certain pain or unrealistic expectation of what could have been. Retromania, accelerated remake-cycles, and the increasingly ease of, and access to, archiving capacities has created a heightened sense of nostalgia. This course will use philosophy and cultural theory to examine texts, films, and short stories in order to try and understand the current power of nostalgia and the technological reformulation of memory that accompanies it.

Inhalt: Gelesen werden soll Huserls Vortrag "Die Krisus des europäischen Menschentums" und sein Spätwerk "Die Krisis der Europäischen Wissenschaften". Dabei geht es auch um weiterführende Fragen wie die nach der Idee Europas oder der Zukunft von Technik und Wissenschaft.
