Text and Discourse: Critical Discourse Analysis (Seminar)

Inhalt: Critical discourse analysis (CDA) is a contemporary approach to the study of language and discourses in social institutions. Drawing on poststructuralist discourse theory and critical linguistics, it focuses on how social relations, identity, knowledge and power are constructed through written and spoken texts in communities, schools and classrooms. The goal of this seminar is to introduce the tools, key terms assumptions and methodology used in CDA, and to apply it to diverse contexts (media discourse, educational discourse and other kinds of institutional discourse).

Inhalt: This tutorial complements the seminar "Text and Discourse: Critical Discourse Analysis". The purpose and contents of the course are practical activities designed to follow up and illustrate those concepts and methods introduced and discussed in the above-mentioned seminar. It aims to improve students' skills in using discurse-analytic methods through practical exercises.
