Geschichte der europäischen Integration (Seminar)

Inhalt: Der Prozess der europäischen Einigung (europäische Integration) scheint u.a. durch rechtspopulistische Bewegungen, den Brexit und die schwelende Eurokrise in seinem Kern gefährdet. Um als mündige*r Bürger*in über die Europäische Integration und die Auswirkungen der diversen Krisen reflektieren zu können, ist ein fundiertes Wissen über die historischen, institutionellen und theoretischen Grundlagen der Europäischen Union und des politikwissenschaftlichen Nachdenkens über sie von zentraler Bedeutung.

Introduction to International Relations (Seminar)

Inhalt: This seminar will cover an introduction to International Relations, with a special focus on security issues. In the past few years, the post-Cold War peace of Europe has been slowly disintegrating from within and without, as emerging powers Russia and China challenge the existing order and its institutions such as NATO, while crises on Europe's periphery present humanitarian challenges due to migration, terrorism, and the overarching perils of climate change. This seminar will introduce core concepts and theories of International Relations through a series of thematic sessions that select specific contemporary urgent international issues, and relate them to themes including war and peace, institutions, non-state conflicts, and human and environmental security. The seminar uses weekly readings, focusing on shorter policy-oriented journal articles from IR and foreign policy journals. Due to the new distance learning policies, this course will take place over Discord for general chat and questions, and Zoom for weekly live seminars The final syllabus with themes, as well as the weekly readings, will be uploaded before the start of the semester.
