Inhalt: This course provides students with insights into basic characteristics of sustainability science (i.e. approaches, trends, institutions, theories, practices) as a new and emerging field. Students will learn about the historical development, fundamental topics and approaches, and expected future developments of sustainability science. The course is structured around four main perspectives: • Perspective 1: Sustainability science in history, between science and social change • Perspective 2: Socio-ecological systems research for sustainability • Perspective 3: Action-oriented research for sustainability transformations • Perspective 4: Comparing approaches and reflecting on developments of sustainability research . In order to address the four perspectives, we will use a wide variety of activities. Students will work on readings assigned previous to the seminar individually and in smaller groups. In class, we will critically address and discuss the readings. We will also develop a historical timeline of sustainability research as a whole class. Students will work in small groups at the development of the final deliverables
