Inhalt: This course provides an introduction to international trade theory and policy. It aims at enabling participants to understand the fundamental theories on international trade and their empirical validation in order to gain competence in assessing macroeconomic developments, trade policy, as well as business strategies in this area. Participants will also be given an insight into econometric research methodologies and recent results in the field. Issues that will be addressed, among others, are the gains from trade, the reciprocity of international trade and market structures, competition and income inequality. Furthermore, trade policy institutions and instruments will be presented and general arguments for free trade and trade restrictions will be discussed against the background of current trade policy. Inhalt: This course explores the links between money, financial intermediaries, financial markets and the policies that affect them. In particular, it focuses on the effects of monetary policy on financial markets and through them on the economy as a whole. It provides students with an understanding of how interest rates, money supply and central bank actions affect the decisions of economic agents, financial markets and prices. • To develop an understanding of objectives, functions, and operations of central banks • To introduce students to a number of recent developments and policy debates regarding financial markets and monetary policy.
