Inhalt: In this theory-based seminar we consider surveillance by intelligence agencies - from the Five Eyes alliance to cases recently brought to European courts to processes of securitization - as a subject of International Relations. We look at the interrelation between security and privacy, contestations of surveillance, the judicialization of intelligence oversight and questions of knowledge production. We cover different theoretical schools that research surveillance by intelligence agencies in an international context and detangle their research interests and epistemological practices.
