Inhalt: In "Die Logik der Sorge" beschreibt Bernard Stiegler, wie durch die Einflüsse der Kulturindustrie, technisch-medialer Transformationen und einer Ausweitung des Marketings die Fähigkeit Sorge und Verantwortung für sich, für andere und für die Welt zu übernehmen, systematisch zerstört wird. In Abgrenzung zu Foucaults Konzept der Biomacht entwirft er das Bild einer Psychopolitik, deren Fokus nicht mehr auf der Verwertung der Körper für die Arbeit liegt, sondern die vielmehr die Gehirne und Psychen für den Konsum präpariert. Im Seminar werden wir das im Deutschen in zwei Teilen erschienene Buch („Verlust der Aufklärung durch Technik und Medien“ und „Von der Biomacht zur Psychopolitik“) in Gänze lesen und diskutieren.
Thinking With Animals (Seminar)

Inhalt: In recent decades, the Humanities and the Social Sciences have witnessed an incremental expansion of the interest in the so-called “question of the animal” and the investigation of human-animal relations. This has led to a real “animal turn”, which has given rise to a new research paradigm with its precise set of methodologies and theories, i. e. the interdisciplinary field of Human-Animal Studies. The very emergence of the “animal turn” is a phenomenon to which philosophy has undoubtedly strongly contributed: addressed to the constant investigation of what is the “Man”, a part of the philosophical research has gradually met the “Animal” and animals in the flesh, allowing this encounter to put into question many assumptions of its own tradition. The seminar aims to provide an introduction to the flourishing and articulated contemporary philosophical debate on these issues. Through a series of selected readings, the students will be familiarized with the fundamental concepts, theoretical junctures and terminology of the debate. The main traditions of thought at play will be presented, critically analyzing and evaluating the tools and argumentative style that distinguish them: from Peter Singer's utilitarianism to feminist perspectives, from the critique of continental humanism to the reflections of the Frankfurt School.
