Sustainability Psychology: Research & Application (Seminar)

Inhalt: The seminar will pick up current public debates around sustainability and environmental risks. This will include (1) when and how people understand communications about environmental risks and (2) how they behave in face of challenges such as environmental risks. Participants will discuss findings from the interdisciplinary fields of judgment and decision sciences, environmental psychology and risk research about, for example, belief in climate change, communication of risk and uncertainty, and different factors linked to (pro-)environmental behaviors. Applications include but are not restricted to climate change and extreme weather, health, risks to ecosystems, energy use or the like. The aim of the seminar is to create a ‚toolbox‘ of effective interventions for ‚boosting‘ competencies in face of environmental risks; by targeting both understanding and decisions (see also https://scienceofboosting.org). At the same time participants will critically discuss the role of different evidence synthesis methods for environmental psychology, such as reviews, meta analyses, or expert surveys.
