Critical Perspectives on Veganism: Ethics, Politics, and Aesthetics (Seminar)

Inhalt: Who are the vegans? Is veganism a lifestyle, a diet, a moral choice, or a political stance? What does it mean to identify as a vegan subjectivity? What has veganism to do with feminism, queerness, (anti-)racism, and other social justice movements? How do we imagine vegan utopias? How is veganism (and carnism) embedded in broader structural power relations in our capitalist society? What is the role of media, aesthetics, and art in shaping imageries of and for veganism? In the seminar, we will address these questions and related ones by adopting the lenses of moral philosophy, political philosophy and voices from the field of Critical Animal Studies and the emerging field of Vegan Studies.
