Epistemology and Resistance (Seminar)
Dozent/in: Chiara Stefanoni
Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 16.10.2023 - 02.02.2024 | C 12.010 Seminarraum
Inhalt: The seminar revolves around the central question of the relationship between power and knowledge. We will start with the recognition that knowledges and scientific discourses are deeply intertwined with issues of power and oppression - both in terms of their emergence and their effects. Thus, the first part will be devoted to acquiring the core concepts and vocabulary of social and critical epistemology (e.g. epistemic injustice, epistemic violence, ideology, truth regime). Then, the second part of the seminar will investigate recent and less recent attempts at drawing ways out from the dominant Western epistemological framework, looking for conceptualizations of epistemologies of resistance (Medina) which are at the same time resistant epistemologies and possibilities for critique and protest. Here we will be guided by insights from Marxist thinkers (such as Lukacs) decolonial thinkers (such as Anzaldua, Lugones, Mignolo), feminist thinkers (such as Harding, Hartsock, Haraway), and queer thinkers (such as Ahmed, Sedgwick) (also in their intersectionality).
