Opera world premiere at Leuphana
2024-03-18 Lüneburg. The world premiere of the media opera "Pink Mouse" by Iraida Yusupova will take place at Leuphana University Lüneburg on 21 March. The opera is based on the novel of the same name by author Viktor Jerofejev, who will be present at the event. He is one of the best-known contemporary Russian authors and has been a visiting professor of literary practice at Leuphana since 2022. Pink Mouse presents a Russified wonderland, located at the bottom of the sea, where all kinds of institutions - national, familial, literary - are ironically invoked by a young orphan girl in a wave of utopian aspirations.
Yusupova has created the hybrid genre of "media opera" in Russia. It combines the traditional virtuosity of opera singing and orchestration with the visualisation techniques of animated film. Their aesthetic experiments raise questions about art, technology and conditions of reception at a time of dwindling budgets for publicly funded institutions of legitimate culture. Pink Mouse received the prestigious Zverev Art Prize in 2021. Due to pandemic lockdowns and the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, the piece has not yet had its world premiere.
The public is cordially invited to attend the premiere of "Pink Mouse" (English version) on 21 March 2024 at 10 am. The event will take place in lecture hall 4 on Leuphana's Universitätsallee 1 campus. Admission is free, the performance lasts 2.5 hours.
Afterwards, from 2 to 5.30 pm, a philosophical-theoretical workshop with international guests from art and science will take place at the same location.
