Lüneburg/Dortmund. The General German University Sports Association (adh) has now recognized the outstanding commitment of the Leuphana University Sports Center in terms of sports offerings, sustainable development, and promoting engagement with the title “University of the Year 2025.” adh board member Melanie Haag presented the award to Leuphana Vice President Christian Brei and the head of the University Sports Center, David Storek, at the adh gala in Dortmund.
The adh board attests that the Leuphana University Sports Center has set standards in recent years and established itself as a driving force at both the local and national levels. Leuphana already achieved first place in the adh education ranking in 2024, won the adh sustainability award, and was also honored with the GRIP sponsorship award for the sustainable and social orientation of its sports programs. In addition, it impressed with a very broad and diverse range of sports, the regular organization of educational events, the innovative combination of exercise and learning opportunities, and the anchoring of sustainable values in everyday university sports.
But it is not only sustainability, health promotion, and education that characterize the range of university sports in Lüneburg. Leuphana also impressed in competitive sports with sporting successes and continuous participation in national competitions. Outstanding results such as titles at the German University Championships in boxing in 2022 and tennis in 2025 underscore the performance and versatility of Lüneburg's university athletes. In addition, as a partner university for elite sports, the university is particularly committed to promoting the compatibility of studying and competitive sports.
For David Storek, the title is an incentive: “We see the award as motivation to continue on our path. University sports at Leuphana thrive on a strong team spirit, a passion for innovation, and the conviction that exercise connects people and broadens horizons.”
