Second issue of LIAS Magazine: Review and insights with the second LIAS cohort 2024/25
Second Issue LIAS Magazine
2026-02-02
With the second issue of LIAS Magazine, Leuphana Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Society presents a comprehensive review of the activities of the 2024/25 academic year and at the same time opens up new perspectives on key current research topics. In addition to an annual essay, the magazine brings together short essays by the fellows, who provide exemplary insights into their projects at LIAS.
In its second year, physical presence, diverse discussion and research formats, and personal encounters once again proved to be particularly productive – both for the fellows' work and for exchanges within the university, in Lower Saxony and beyond.
The magazine reflects this diversity: in the opening essay, Public Fellow Charlotte Wiedemann argues for a humanistic stance against talk of the ‘return of war’. Further contributions range from global historical perspectives on northern Germany to urban forms of resistance, postcolonial memory, diasporic art practices, feminist literary research and musical memory work, to reflections on AI, film, art and global power relations. The second issue thus impressively documents the thematic breadth and social relevance of the work at LIAS in Culture and Society.
