Keynote & guest talk in Jyväskylä, Finland

At the International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) Conference 2026 in Jyväskylä, Finland, Boukje Cnossen gave a keynote lecture titled “Organizing artistic practice: Understanding the materialised legitimation of site-specific performances”. In this talk, and in line with the conference’s theme, she focused on the question, ‘What is the role of materiality and materialisation in the organization of cultural and artistic practice?’ In so doing, she relied on a perspective known as Communication Constitutes Organization (CCO), that has shown how organization existst in communication, and how communication includes different kinds and degrees of materiality. She presented empirical material analysing various artistic performances (referring to some of her recent publications) as well as examples from an ongoing research project that investigates challenges and developments in the organization of cultural practice. Alongside the conference program, Boukje additionally gave a guest talk in the PhD seminar of Prof. Anu Sivunen. The conference took place from May 11-13, 2026.
