After a general introduction to North American Studies, we will concentrate on the following Canadian topics: Native cultures and the oral tradition; European colonization and immigration; Canada-U.S. relations (settlement patterns, ecological movements, and literary cultures); mainstream and marginalized voices that – encouraged by the social movements of the 1960s – enriched both the political debates and the literatures of Canada.
Anglo-American Approaches to Eco Criticism (GHR only) (Seminar)
Dozent/in: Maria Moss
Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 16:15 - 17:45 | 13.10.2025 - 30.01.2026 | C 5.019 Seminarraum
Inhalt: In this seminar we will study various facets of eco critical expression. We will examine how different approaches - narrative and otherwise - reflect the way nature and environment in general as well as different environmental issues in particular (such as pollution, deforestation, and the loss of species) influence society. In order to do justice to the ethical and political dimensions of environmentalism, we will discuss current eco-critical hotspots in the Anglo-American world and beyond. Special attention will be given to the aspect of "critical animal studies."
