Kultur und Stadt - Eine Einführung in kulturwissenschaftlich relevante Theorien der Stadtstrukturen und Stadtentwicklungen (Seminar/Übung)

Inhalt: Das Modul gibt Einblick in die Bedeutung kultureller Institutionen (Akteure, Szenen, Veranstaltungen, Einrichtungen) für städtische Strukturen und Entwicklungen. Aktuelle kultur- und sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien zur Raumkonstruktion werden anhand der Entwicklung zeitgenössischer postindustrieller Städte erläutert und gedeutet. Die Bezüge vom euklidischen zum sozialen Raum werden dargelegt und reflektiert. Dabei wird insbesondere auf die wechselseitigen Effekte von Kultur und Stadtentwicklung sowie Stadtpolitik eingegangen und der Kritik der Instrumentalisierungen von Kunst und Kultur für die Stadtentwicklung nachgegangen. Im Modul wird zudem schwerpunktmäßig Hamburg als benachbartes "Großstadtlabor" thematisiert, indem kulturell beeinflusste städtische Strukturen und Entwicklungen dieser Stadt analysiert und diskutiert werden.

Urban Cultures seek Sustainability (Seminar)

Inhalt: The seminar will explore how some arts-based and culturally sensitive initiatives and projects are elaborating ways to build "cultures of sustainability" in the context of contemporary urban development and of so-called 'creative' city policies. The seminar will introduce some theoretical perspectives and focus on local cases in the cities of Hamburg and Hannover (with the possibility for the participants in the seminar to also include Lüneburg in their investigation). These will include e.g. Transition Towns in Hannover and Hamburg, urban gardening and initiatives related to the 'Right to the City' network in Hamburg. The seminar will include 2 small-scale weekend excursions to Hamburg (together with the students of a neighboring seminar by Volker Kirchberg).
