Inhalt: These lectures cover the whole range of automation systems from the measurement and analysis up to the control of industrial processes. (1) First, after general considerations like flowsheet symbols and P&I diagrams, functional diagrams and function symbols, instrument terminology and performance, system accuracy and other general features, sensors for flow, level, temperature, pressure, and density measurements are discussed. The principle of operation is explained and industrial applications including availability and price are presented. (2) Second, industrial data communication and networks are discussed. After general subjects like noise or grounding, basic technologies like Shielded and Unshielded Twisted Pair (STP & UTP) cables and fiber optics are presented. Next the principle and operation of Ethernet TCP/IP is discussed. (3) Third process models and mathematics of control are presented. PID-control and tuning with application to different processes are explained and trained in MATLAB/Simulink hands-on-exercises, to try out control zhe students by themselves. (4) Finally, industrial implementations with Programmable Automation Controllers for pump control in water supply plants, fillers, labeling machines, and robotics are presented.
