Inhalt: For many citizens, today’s international system is characterized by disorder, violence and risk. However, the international system is, at the same time, deeply characterized by processes of judicialization and legalization which promise to offer law-based procedures to regulate international conflicts non-violently. In this seminar, we will discuss concepts of legalization, analyze empirical instances of legalization (in the policy fields of international human rights and the World Trade Organization) and evaluate the impact of legalization on peace and legitimate global governance.
