Inhalt: Social media platforms are the basis for new social movements, including the black lives matter (BLM) movement, that become increasingly important to consider from a business, management, but also marketing perspective. This research focuses on the social media-based online community #influencerpaygap, which emerged in the summer 2020 in the light for the global BLM movement on Instagram. The community attempts to make unequal pay amongst influencers transparent but also allows individual workers to seek and give business advice and emotional support. Drawing on a variety of works of literature, including studies on the platform or gig economy, influencer marketing, social media research, but also business ethics, we attempt to analyse the content and dynamics of the online community from a variety of perspectives to make sense of the phenomenon (the data will be provided). The course further will investigate the perceptions and experiences of influencers with the community along with practitioners interviews, which the students will conduct.
