Ecosystem processes: a biogeochemical perspective (Übung)

Dozent/in: David Walmsley

Termin:
wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 12:15 - 15:45 | 02.04.2024 - 05.07.2024 | C 13.120 Labor | On occasion there may be some small changes to the times, e.g. slightly longer duration due to excursions. All changes will be jointly discussed during the course. The work load will not be affected.

Inhalt: This module aims at an advanced understanding of (terrestrial) ecosystem processes from a biogeochemical point of view. Although officially declared as an exercise (Übung) this course is the integration of the previously separately offered lecture and exercise and will, therefore, contain elements of both (ratio approximately 1:3). In addition, we will be going on a few excursions in which we will observe and discuss contents related to the course. Both lectures and lab exercises will have a particular focus on biogeochemical processes in soils as well as global change impacts on biogeochemical processes in terrestrial ecosystems. Finally, these issues will be discussed in light of sustainable land-use and conservation. The main topics addressed are: - Energy and matter flows through ecosystems - Biogeochemical cycles in ecosystems - Plant-soil interactions - Soil ecological processes in ecosystems - Below- and aboveground nutrient flows, stores and balances - Soil architecture and classification - Human impacts on biogeochemical processes - Soil protection and management
