Understanding and Teaching Texts - Seminar 1 (Seminar)

Inhalt: As part of the module “Teaching English as a Foreign Language II" this seminar will focus on theory enabling you to find suitable texts as well as adapting them for a specific target group. We will look at different types of texts (e.g. textbook excerpts, short literary texts, picture books) and you will learn about reading comprehension, text reception as well as approaches to evaluating, adapting and designing tasks. Another focus of the seminar will be on the use of digital media as tools to create, modify and share multimodal texts and tasks for the EFL classroom.

2. Semester - Implementing and Researching Innovative Approaches in Foreign Language Pedagogy - A Blended Mobility Project (Englisch) (Seminar)

Inhalt: This seminar is dedicated to exploring innovative practices in foreign language teaching while promoting intercultural exchange and research-based learning. Participants will investigate new developments in language teaching and critically reflect on teaching traditions in their countries, exchanging experiences with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through online lectures, discussions, and readings, participants will delve into key issues related to innovation in foreign language teaching. They will engage in discussions with student teachers from different European countries to explore innovative practices in language education. Additionally, participants will develop classroom activities and learning materials based on the course themes. The seminar focuses on research methods relevant to investigating innovation in language education, including qualitative research, interview-based methods, design-based research, and action research.Participants will develop, implement, and research their teaching concepts and innovative practices in language education exploring the conditions, characteristics, and implementation of innovative teaching methods. The development of research projects will serve as a framework for this exploration. This course will be offered as an ERASMUS+Blended Intensive Program. This means that it will combine 1) online lectures, 2) international online collaboration in working groups between student teachers from across Europe, and 3) a final one-week period at the University of León, Spain (January 2025), which will include the completion of project work and other events. Exemplary Research Questions: • What are the key challenges and opportunities in implementing innovative language teaching methods in diverse educational settings? • What is the impact of innovative teaching methods on language learning processes/outcomes? • How are innovative language teaching practices perceived in different cultural contexts? Possible Research Methods: • Surveys or interviews with language teachers and learners • Analysis of classroom interactions • Observational studies of language teaching practices
