Grundlagen der Nachhaltigkeitswissenschaft (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Guido Caniglia, Berta Martín-López, Henrik Wehrden

Inhalt: There is a broad spectrum of theoretical and methodological approaches in sustainability science. Colliding disciplinary backgrounds, different understandings of how to do research transdisciplinary, solution-oriented, or transformative require changes in the field. This course will deal with embedding history and philosphy of science in the developing field of sustainability science, dealing with challenges of relations between theory and empiricism, as well as theory and practice in three steps with varying (guest) lecturers: 1.Workshop - Role of History and Philosophy of Science with Dr. Guido Caniglia (Arizona State University): In this session we first learn/recapitulate on basic terms, definitions, authors, and their role and influence in history and philosophy of science and on different disciplines. In a second step we review and critically discuss the current situation and future role of philosophy of science and its current application and projects. 2.Workshop - History and Future of Sustainability Science (Berta Martín López): This session is to review and explore the History of Sustainability Science, its major milestones and developments. We assess the future and advancements that Sustainability Science is facing. For a synthesis we will locate our own work and research in the field as well as discuss along three Leuphana research projects their positioning themselves. 3.Workshop: Ethics in Sustainability Science in Theory and Practice (Henrik von Wehrden and Felix Rauschmayer (UFZ)): In this session we discuss the diversity of problems, the normativity of the concept, as well as the variety of contexts of sustainability in light of ethics. We approach this from both perspectives of theory and practice
