Collective Action for Sustainability (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Torsten Masson

Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 13:50 - 16:05 | 17.10.2023 - 02.02.2024 | C 5.019 Seminarraum

Inhalt: Important: Course literature are original (psychological) research texts (no textbooks!). You can find all course materials in myStudy ('Material' -> 'Literature for sessions'). The module introduces psychological theorizing and empirical findings that aim to understand, explain, predict, and change human behavior in the context of sustainability. Specifically, the course focuses on psychological research investigating, i) predictors of sustainability-related activist behavior (e.g. climate protest), and ii) effectiveness of different strategies to foster private and collective sustainability-related behavior. The course addresses behavior at the different levels of analysis (individual, community) with a focus on group processes for sustainability. Exemplary topics range from affective and cognitive factors for participation in youth climate strikes, spillover effects between private and collective sustainability-related behaviors, to the effectiveness of financial incentives for supporting conservation behaviors. The module aims at enabling students to reflect on theoretical, empirical, as well as applied psychological research, linking theorizing on collective action and intervention research with the question how psychology can contribute to sustainability challenges.
