Songwriting Camps in the 21st Century (SC21)

This project pioneers research into commercial collaborative songwriting taking place in songwriting camps. It investigates what forms of songwriting camps exist in the 21st century in the UK and Germany to understand the interests of convenors (publishers, record companies, individuals) and participating professionals, the collaborative creative processes and interplay of the different skill-sets of various roles (topliners, beatmakers, lyricists, producers), the organisation of offline and online camps, economic and legal aspects (e.g., royalty agreements), and the role of songwriting camps within the wider music industries.

The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG No. 508326423) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK.
