UNITWIN Network on Education for Sustainable Development and Social Transformation

The members of UNESCO UNITWIN Network on Education for Sustainable Development and Social Transformation (UNiESD&ST) attended the recently concluded ESD-Net Global Meeting  jointly organized by UNESCO  and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan and co-hosted by the United  Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo from 18 to 20 December. The main audience of this meeting included countries interested in ESD for 2030 initiatives and stakeholders and members of ESD-NET. The UNITWIN network on ESD and Social Transformation prepared a document to present to the global community its shared vision on role of Education for Sustainable Development. Based on research evidence, the network identifies  the crucial function of ESD being a key enabler for a sustainable future with a role to transform societies.

Our Shared Vision for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

``As the ESD for 2030 Framework focuses on the role of ESD in contributing to the achievement of the 17 SDGs and to fully integrate ESD in all of the SDGs through all of its priority action areas including policies, learning environments, capacity- building of educators, the empowerment and mobilization of young people, and local level action, we invite all ESD-NET members and stakeholders to frame all action in the broader vision of ESD as a key enabler in societies to build a more just and sustainable world for all, both within the current SDGs and the broad vision of sustainable development until and beyond 2030.´´
