This artist talk traces a personal artistic journey from earlier digital works to more recent installations, following a recurring question as its thread: how do we relate to language? And how might technology help us not to place another layer between ourselves and language, but to come closer to it—to create spaces for contemplation, care, and connection? What would happen if you could grow a word? What if language could move through the physical world as an object? Each project approaches language from a different perspective, for stories of language to be told through the agencies of the non-human: as metaphor, as material, as a starting point for speculation.
Qianxun Chen is a media artist, lecturer and researcher. Her work seeks non-human perspectives of language through the experimental use of technology, with a focus on generative poetics, the aesthetics of algorithms and digital textuality. Her media art installations have been presented in international festivals and exhibitions, such as Ars Electronica, SAVVY Contemporary and Lab.30 Festival. She studied at the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong and holds a Master's degree from Brown University in Boston and a Master‘s in Digital Media from the University of the Arts (HFK) Bremen. Since 2025, she has been teaching Digital Media at Leuphana University
