Dozent/in: Johannes Lohse

wöchentlich | Montag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 02.04.2024 - 13.05.2024 | C 12.001 Seminarraum
wöchentlich | Montag | 10:15 - 13:45 | 17.06.2024 - 01.07.2024 | C 40.146 Seminarraum

Inhalt: Discover the pivotal role of environmental economics in shaping our world's future. Environmental economics stands at the forefront of shaping environmental regulations, from pioneering emission trading systems to assessing the societal impacts of air pollution and climate change. Its influence stretches across central policy documents, including the IPCC report and the Stern Review, guiding global leaders in their decisions on key environmental regulations. But what makes evidence useful for policymakers? In this seminar, we'll focus on the methodologies for generating such evidence, particularly those enabling causal inference, such as field experiments, lab experiments, and natural experiments. Participants will select an environmental challenge to investigate, using a critical reading of the existing literature, how experimental approaches have provided essential information for policy decisions aimed at creating enacting policies that push us towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable planet. The format includes discussions, readings, and student presentations, supported by introductory sessions on the empirical methods necessary for this course. Join us to gain insights into the vital role of environmental economics in crafting policies for a healthier and more sustainable world. To successfully participate in this seminar, students must have a keen interest in environmental policy, empirical methods, and a willingness to deeply engage with both the readings and the topics discussed.
