Inhalt: Are you a Comma-kaze? Is your modifier dangling and the others won’t tell you? Do vampires teach register? These questions and grammar points as well as many more will be covered in the class. Grammar is a necessary ’evil’ for speaking, reading and understanding so why not try and make it interesting? In this course students will be looking at advanced grammar through various perspectives. Additionally the topics covered will help with various test (with the exception of writing).

Inhalt: The first half (10:15-11:45) is open to all students. The second half (12:00-13:34) is only for students who wish to take this course for credit points. Business isn’t just for business majors. Whether you are studying engineering, cultural studies, sustainability or one of the other majors, you will be part of business. In other words, you will be communicating your ideas to people around the world. But how adequate is your English? This seminar focuses on the international and virtual happenings of business. Using culturally appropriate, informative, and persuasive communication styles in spoken as well as written English is the key to successful business. Emphasis will be placed on all competences: written (e.g. concise minutes, persuasive business communication, etc.), spoken (pronunciation enhancement, rhetorical strategies for presenting) listening (understanding accents, etc.) and reading (strategies and language used) . In addition culturally appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication (direct and indirect communication styles, use of gestures, time, and space) will be applied.

Inhalt: This course will assist students in perfecting their written and oral communication skills in English. Each participant will become familiar with the fundamentals of successful communication in business and academic settings. This course will also touch on certain points of language use. At the end of the course, students should feel more confident about communicating in various contexts.
