Advanced Written Communication: Text Commentary (Übung)

Inhalt: In this course, students will be introduced to notions and workings of advertising campaigns, analyses of commercials and printed ads, copywriting as well as actual design of promotional materials. Participants will also practice formulating ad slogans and learn the rudiments of trade fair participation. In addition, spoken and written forms of business communication, including presentations, problem-solving skills, various genres of writing (reports, sales letters, leaflets/brochures) will be practiced.

Englisch/FSZ: Current News Topics (C1) (Übung)

Inhalt: This course is designed to familiarize students with news reporting in the print media and the public discourse on contemporary issues. In addition we will contrast news reporting on controversial issues (e.g. teen age pregnancy, etc.) with fictional depictions of these topics in film and literature.

Englisch/FSZ: Effective Writing in English (C1) (Übung)

Inhalt: Each participant will gain experience working with reference works, writing essays, a c.v., etc. This course will also touch on certain points of Academic English, gender neutral language, English punctuation and mechanics. Homework, attendance, and active participation are required.

Inhalt: This course will offer participants the opportunity to examine various issues in the field of tourism. Special emphasis will be placed on current trends, tourism’s impact on culture and the environment as well as the consequences of the industry’s growing importance to the economies of both developing and highly developed countries. In addition, spoken and written forms of business communication, including presentations, negotiation skills as well as various genres of writing (essays, reports, tourist leaflets/brochures) will be practiced.

Inhalt: International trade and small-medium scale (SMS) industries form the backbone of the German economy. Students will learn about the rudiments of setting up companies geared for international trade to prepare them for careers in this sector. This course will also familiarize them with the globally-used terminology and practices. Topics include: entrepreneurship- its risks and glories, the status of SMS businesses in Germany, marketing techniques of SMS firms, the World Trade Organization, and special services such as forwarding and agency arrangements.
