Global Sustainability Politics (Seminar)
Dozent/in: Harald Heinrichs
Termin:
wöchentlich | Montag | 12:15 - 13:45 | 16.10.2023 - 02.02.2024 | C 40.146 Seminarraum
Inhalt: Global sustainability governance takes place in dynamically changing political, societal and economic contexts, such as consumer trends, political activism or shifting relationships between Global North and Global South. In order to better understand challenges and opportunities of sustainable development it is essential to identify and analyze institutions and instruments of sustainability governance as well as key contextual conditions. In this perspective the seminar aims at developing an embedded understanding of current global sustainability governance based on conceptual literature, empirical information and case studies.

Sustainability Economics and Sustainable Consumption (Seminar)
Dozent/in: Jacob Hörisch
Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 12:15 - 13:45 | 16.10.2023 - 02.02.2024 | C 14.204 Seminarraum
Inhalt: This course consists of two parts: In the first half, general principles of economics will be introduced and we will analyse in how far these principles can be used to set targets and to design instruments for steering towards sustainable development. In the second half, we will use this knowledge to analyse one aspect of economics in more detail: Consumer decisions. We will learn more about different theories explaining why consumers do (not) decide for sustainable consumption. Some of these theories will be closely related to economic principles (e.g. rational choice, adjusted expectance value theory) others will be rather distinct to these principles (e.g. moral and normative conduct, the matter of habit). Finally, the participants will use a theory of their choice, to design an intervention to foster sustainable consumption.

Dozent/in: Jelena Bäumler
Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 16:15 - 17:45 | 16.10.2023 - 02.02.2024 | C 14.102 a Seminarraum
Inhalt: This course focuses on the international regulatory approaches and intersections among the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social law. Having developed in different contexts and by different institutions, Human Rights Law, International Environmental Law and International Economic Law each have unique structures, narratives and enforcement mechanisms. In line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which envisage an integrative framework for sustainable development, the course will also explore mechanisms and tools for the systemic integration of the three pillars, gender equality and recent developments in treaty lawmaking as an essential basis for a sustainable world.
