A moot court is a mock trial or a simulated litigation, which in Moot Court II can centre around different cases stemming from five of the most important international moot court competitions in 2019/2020, i.e.: Willem C. Vis Moot Court in international commercial arbitration; Philip C. Jessup Moot Court in international public law; ELSA moot court competition in WTO law; Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court; Manfred Lachs Moot Court in Space Law. Students will work in teams, composed of Applicant/Claimant and Respondent/Defendant to develop well-structured, legally sound, clear and convincing argumentation for their written memoranda and pleadings. The course combines theoretical and practical knowledge and soft skills and is therefore divided into lectures and practical sessions involving both, to allow students to work with a larger audience and work in groups. The first 3 sessions will be held in the form of introductory lectures, covering theoretical questions of mooting, including recapitulation of main steps of case solving, main issues of preparation of written memoranda and oral presentation as well as a first overview of the five above-mentioned Moot Court Competitions. Moot Court II may conclude with an Internal Moot Court Competition, where students can present the acquired skills in a litigation simulation on one of the above cases, to be agreed upon in the course. Such Internal Moot Court Competition would be held in front of a judging panel consisting of other Professors/experts in the field. Details in this regard to be agreed and confirmed in the course of Moot Court II.
