In this course, we will take a look at the way in which certain philosopher such as Aristotle, Hegel, Ravaisson, Merleau-Ponty, and Malabou have thought about habit and examine current research trends, which touch upon or otherwise utilize the concept.

Inhalt: For Benhabib, Butler and Spivak the political subject cannot be seen independently of ethical implications. Ethics play a key role in the authors’ emancipatory socio-political concepts. In their utopian combination of democracy and cosmopolitanism Benhabib’s ethics and politics describe the legitimisation of the ethical as a political task. It can be argued that there is a close link between ethics and politics, with the autonomous subject as a rational, critical being capable of acting located at their heart. Actions are achieved by transforming the principles of ethical discourse into political principles. Benhabib regards human rights, which she wishes to expand, as a positive example of her preferred political direction. Butler develops an innovative, radically democratic concept of politics in which ethics is of particular importance in another sense and which transcends the existing understanding of politics. Chambers/Carver state that “Butler clearly rejects the notion of politics as the production of consensus, and she consistently takes her leave of the idea of politics as mere administration of affairs. She insists on a politics of struggle, strife, conflict – a radical democratic politics that is disturbing in that it literally disturbs by interrupting the given order.” (Chambers/Carver 2008: 9) Her form of politics commences with criticism and denaturalisation of norms. (Cf. Chambers/Carver 2008: 12) Butler’s anthropological basic assumptions, which provide the foundation for her ethics, are the starting point for her political concept, giving her political demands an emancipatory and visionary focus. Spivak follows a different path in her political philosophy. Hermeneutics and pedagogy form the core of her ethical/political concept. The ethical is the central theme, in particular by engaging with the subaltern, listening and providing appropriate assistance in forming them. In this context Spivak places particular value on literature, both in terms of ethics and also politics. In this context Seyla Benhabib, Judith Butler and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak formulate differing concepts of the political and ethical subject. The sessions on 24/04, 08/05, 22/05, 05/06, 19/06 and 03/07/2020 will be conducted via Zoom from 10.00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and consist of a lecture introducing the concepts of each lesson. Each student will then work individually on the assignment of each session. Invitations to meeting, assignments and literature for the sessions are uploaded to myStudy. During the term, students will prepare a portfolio/ePortfolio (myPortfolio), in which all work results/artefacts are collected. Grading is based on the portfolio (30%) and a written term paper (70%).

Was ist Faschismus? (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Heiko Stubenrauch

Termin:
