Hans-Dieter-Klingemann Lecture

Center for the Study of Democracy (ZDEMO)

In the presence of the head of the Research Evaluation Committee of the Lower Saxony Scientific Commission, Prof. Dr. hc mult. Hans Dieter Klingemann, as well as of the President of the University of Lüneburg, Prof. Dr. Hartwig Donner, the Center for the Study of Democracy (ZDEMO) was officially opened in 2004. For this reason the "Hans-Dieter-Klingemann" lecture has been held annually with renowned colleagues since then.

  • - Prof. Pippa Norris (Havard University and University of Sydney), 2019
    The Hans-Dieter Klingemann Lecture 2019 was given by Professor Pippa Norris (Havard University and University of Sydney) on July 4th. She lectured on the following topic:“Cultural Backlash and the Rise of Authoritarian Populism”.

    Pippa Norris is Professor of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney; Paul F. McGuire Lecturer for Comparative Politics at the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard; and Director of the Electoral Integrity Project. She is one of the most prominent researchers in the field of political participation and will be receiving an honorary doctorate from Leuphana University Lüneburg at this year's Dies Academicus (Date: Wednesday, 3. July 2019).

    The Hans-Dieter Klingemann Lecture 2018 will be given by Professor Dr. Staffen I. Lindberg (University of Gothenburg, V-Dem Institute) on June 5th. He will lecture on the following topic:"Varieties of Democracy: Has the Study of Democratization been misguided for 60 years?"
