Applied Causal Analysis Using Stata (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Boris Hirsch

Termin:
wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 09:00 - 11:45 | 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025 | C 6.317 Seminarraum | Start 1. lecture week

Inhalt: This course covers essential methods used in applied causal analysis: 1. Causal analysis of experimental data 2. Probability models for binary outcomes 3. Instrumental variables estimation 4. Fixed-effects estimation on panel data 5. Differences-in-differences estimation In the first step, the course introduces each method focussing on its correct implementation and interpretation. In the second step, each method is applied to a specific research question from empirical economics using real-world data sets and Stata: 1. Effect of class size on student achievement 2. Discrimination against black job applicants 3. Rate of return to education 4. Effect of wages on individual labour supply 5. Effect of police presence on crime

Introduction to Econometrics (Vorlesung)

Dozent/in: Boris Hirsch

Termin:
wöchentlich | Dienstag | 14:15 - 15:45 | 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025 | C 3.120 Seminarraum | Start 1. lecture week

Inhalt: This course provides an overview of regression analysis. It centres around the question of how to identify causal effects from linear regression models that are estimated using the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator. The main focus is to discuss the estimation of causal effects under mild identifying assumptions rather than the properties of the OLS estimator under ideal conditions that are of little practical relevance. Contents: 1. About this course 2. The simple linear regression model 3. Inference in the simple linear regression model 4. The multiple linear regression model 5. Inference in the multiple linear regression model 6. Nonlinear regression functions 7. The validity of regression analyses

Statistics I (lecture including exercise class) (Vorlesung)

Dozent/in: Jonas Dix, Boris Hirsch

Termin:
wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 12:15 - 13:45 | 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025 | C HS 1 | Start 1. lecture week

Inhalt: This course covers essential methods of descriptive and explorative statistics that are used to summarise data and reveal patterns in these. Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Univariate descriptive statistics 3. Multivariate descriptive statistics 4. Outlook on inductive statistics

Quantitative Methods (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Jonas Dix, Boris Hirsch

Termin:
wöchentlich | Mittwoch | 12:15 - 13:45 | 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025 | C 1.209 Seminarraum
wöchentlich | Donnerstag | 10:15 - 11:45 | 01.12.2024 - 31.01.2025 | C 1.209 Seminarraum

Inhalt: This course provides an overview of the statistical methods that are required for quantitative analyses in economics and political science. It introduces the essential tools that permit estimating causal effects (rather than mere correlations) from observational data. Contents: 1. Review of linear regression 2. Recentred influence function regression 3. Decomposition methods for linear regression 4. Instrumental variables regression 5. Linear regression with panel data 6. Differences-in-differences estimation 7. Regression for categorical outcomes

Bachelor Thesis Colloquium (Kolloquium)

Dozent/in: Boris Hirsch

Termin:
Einzeltermin | Mi, 23.10.2024, 10:15 - Mi, 23.10.2024, 11:45 | C 7.307 Seminarraum
Einzeltermin | Di, 26.11.2024, 16:15 - Di, 26.11.2024, 19:45 | C 7.307 Seminarraum
Einzeltermin | Di, 14.01.2025, 16:15 - Di, 14.01.2025, 19:45 | C 7.307 Seminarraum
Einzeltermin | Di, 28.01.2025, 16:15 - Di, 28.01.2025, 19:45 | C 7.319 Seminarraum

Inhalt: In each academic year, you can register your bachelor thesis at three different dates – mid of April (group 1), end of May (group 2), or end of November (group 3) – and attend the accompanying mandatory bachelor thesis colloquium where you receive feedback about your planned thesis and your progress while working on it. The bachelor thesis colloquium is offered separately for each of the three groups of students and has three sessions. Before attending the first session of the bachelor thesis colloquium you should already have a general idea about the topic of your thesis, prospective supervisors, and the type of thesis you want to write. For further details on the bachelor thesis and the accompanying bachelor thesis colloquium, refer to the pdf document provided at: https://www.leuphana.de/en/institutes/ivwl/bachelor-theses.html To pass the colloquium, you have to attend these sessions and provide and present an outline of your thesis (in the second session) and present the preliminary state of your thesis while working on it (in the third session).

Volkswirtschaftliches Forschungskolloquium (Kolloquium)

Dozent/in: Luise Görges, Boris Hirsch, Mario Mechtel, Christian Pfeifer, Joachim Wagner, Christoph Wegener, Thomas Wein

Termin:
