Artificial Intelligence Ethics (FSL) (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Johannes Katsarov

Termin:
14-täglich | Freitag | 10:15 - 13:45 | 05.04.2024 - 05.07.2024 | C 12.112 Seminarraum

Inhalt: Through the availability of big data and computational power, machine learning has revolutionized the way we think about artificial intelligence. Machine learning has created enormous new opportunities, including chatbots that can write better than many humans, self-driving cars, apps that create images, videos and music based on few commands, algorithms that can automatize up to 80% of the work that people have been doing in occupations like banking, and many more. In this seminar, we will consider the ethical opportunities and risks of machine-learning applications looking at a wide spectrum of applications. We will cover (1) opportunities of AI for solving large-scale problems regarding medicine, the environment, economics, discrimination, etc. (2) the dangers of bias and discrimination through AI, (3) the potential of AI for deception and manipulation, (4) potential benefits and risks of relationships with AI programs, (4) machine ethics and the difficulties of training artificial intelligence to make ethical decisions, (5) benefits and risks of algorithms and big data in marketing and politics, and (6) the impact of AI on the world of work. Learning methods will include (a) serious games (digital learning games), (b) the testing of diverse AI applications, (c) the discussion of selected readings and documentaries, (d) self-reflection exercises, (e) discussions and exercises on ethical decision-making related to AI.
