Inhalt: Das Seminar soll Integrationsmöglichkeiten und Willkommenskultur sowie die Auswirkungen auf das Gemeinwesen erörtert werden. Dafür soll die aktuelle Situation von Flüchtlingen/Migranten in Deutschland beleuchtet werden. Das Seminar soll Hintergrundwissen vermitteln, Ideen für die Verbesserung der Situation von Flüchtlingen entwickeln und einen offenen Raum zur interkulturellen Kommunikation bieten. Leitende Fragestellungen: - Wie sind die Begebenheiten in den Herkunftsländen der Flüchtlinge? - Welche Fluchtwege sind vorherrschend und was ist die aktuelle Europa-Politik? - Wie ist die heutige Situation für Flüchtlinge in Deutschland? - Wie kann man gemeinsam für eine Willkommenskultur in Deutschland (Niedersachsen/Lüneburg) sorgen? - Wie findet ein konstruktives Zusammenleben statt und wie kann sie von Seiten der Flüchtlinge und der Deutschen gemeinsam gestaltet werden? - Welche Veränderungen finden durch Flüchtlinge im Gemeinwesen statt und welche Veränderungen sind erstrebenswert, um einen guten Umgang mit den potentiellen Herausforderungen zu entwickeln? Methode: Forschendes Lernen Das Seminar soll als eine Lehrforschung zwischen Studierenden und Geflüchteten konzipiert werden. In Anlehnung an die Freiburger Tandem-Lehrfoschung des Lehrstuhls Ethnologie an der Albert-Ludwigs Universität, sollen die Tandempartner sich auch hier gemeinsam eine Fragestellung und ein Forschungsthema überlegen und diese als Team eigenständig durchführen. Bei der Durchführung der Lehrforschung werden die Tandempartner von den Lehrkräften sowie von Partnern außerhalb der Universität (beispielsweise der Willkommensinitiative) unterstützt werden. Ziel ist es eine gemeinsame Fragestellung zu definieren, in einem Referat das Forschungsdesign vorzustellen und während des Semesters mit qualitativen und quantitativen Methoden (Interviewführung, Fragebogen etc.) die ausgewählte Thematik rund um den Bereich der Migration als Team zu bearbeiten. Darüber hinaus soll die Situation von Geflüchteten im Rahmen des Seminars durch ehrenamtliche Gastvorträge von Experten aus dem Gebiet anschaulich dargestellt werden.

Inhalt: La importancia del cine como testigo social y cultural es indiscutible. Por un lado es un medio de expresión del pensamiento y el lenguaje artístico, así como de los aspectos políticos, y socioculturales de los países. Por otro lado es una herramienta óptima de trabajo para perfeccionar los conocimientos de español e incluso para fomentar la creatividad. Durante el seminario utilizaremos el cortometraje como herramienta de trabajo con el fin de conocer más a fondo la realidad de América Latina. A través de su cine reflexionaremos también sobre los problemas y los estereotipos de América Latina. Contrastaremos lo que quiere mostrar América Latina en su propia producción cinematográfica y la percepción europea que tenemos de la misma. Los resultados del seminario los haremos públicos en el Centro de Autoaprendizaje del Centro de Lenguas de Leuphana (SLZ). Las fechas de presentación, formato y otros detalles de organización se fijarán en el seminario con los estudiantes para poder ajustarlo al grupo.

Inhalt: Communicating on a global level is becoming more and more important in today's world. Therefore, in this course, Leuphana students will skype three times with students from th University of Minnesota to discuss their views about specific topics such as cultural comparison, identity, and stereotypes among others. The class will actively research the causes of stereotypes and determine how to refute them. A variety of theories and models of culture and communication (e.g. Hall, Hofstede, Trompenaars, Schulze von Thun, etc.) will be examined and discussed. The theoretical aspects of this course will be put into practice via skyping and blogging in which students will debate and reflect on the afore-mentioned topics. In the writing workshops, special emphasis will be placed on differences in register; use of non-stereotypical as well as gender-neutral language; structure of blog entries and the clear, concise, and coherent development of views as well as arguments.

Inhalt: Kernpunkt des Seminars ist die Untersuchung der aktuellen Entwicklung Chinas. China nimmt heute in den europäischen Medien einen Platz ein, wie man ihn sich vor 30 Jahren nicht hätte vorstellen können. Die Umweltverschmutzung in den großen Städten, territoriale Konflikt mit benachbarten Ländern, Korruption in der chinesischen Parteien, das Ein-Parteien-System, Demokratie in China, die Folgen von der Ein-Kind-Politik, die Alterung der Gesellschaft u.v.m. sind nur einige Beispiele für Themen, über die regelmäßig berichtet wird. In diesem Seminar möchte ich mit den Studierenden zunächst die eigene Perspektive des Landes behandeln. Das Lesen von klassischen Texten in der chinesischen Sprache soll das das Eintauchen in die Tradition und Kultur des Landes ermöglichen. Hierbei wird der Akzent auf die Verbindung von Konfuzianismus und klassischem Chinesisch (Sprache) gelegt. Der zweite Schritt ist, diese Erkenntnisse über die Tradition dem heutigen gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Stand sowie den Modernisierungsprozessen gegenüber zu stellen. Für diese Gegenüberstellung werden aktuelle Nachrichten über China untersucht und kritisch durchleuchtet.

Inhalt: Are you interested in not only improving your written and oral communicative competencies in English but also in learning to craft and present persuasive professional proposals? No matter whether you study business administration, environmental sciences, cultural studies or the like, you will always be able to profit from being able to persuasively present concepts for innovative products or services, business startups or simply new ways to do old things better. We will look at classical rhetorical concepts dating back to Aristotle – such as the rhetorical triad of ethos, pathos, and logos – in connection with contemporary proposals in order to help you understand the importance of context in persuasion and what means you have to reach your goals. Moreover, special emphasis will be placed on the following aspects of language use: appropriate register based on the type of proposal, culturally stylistic aspects of presenting and writing, effective word choice (avoiding translation errors). After developing your own proposal, you will have the opportunity to effectively present it in spoken and written form.

Inhalt: This seminar is not just for drama kings and queens, but for anyone interested in the link between written and spoken words in general as well as composing and performing dialogues in specific. By examining excerpts from plays, sitcoms, and dramadies, we will explore possibilities for transforming stories into dramatic scenarios. In the following sessions, we will experiment with creative writing techniques that will help you craft dialogues for your own dramatic scenario. The seminar will consist of group peer-editing sessions as well as individual appointments to support you during the creative process. Of course, drama is meant to be performed. Therefore, at the end of the semester, you will be expected to translate your dramatic scenarios into a final mini-performance, e.g. on stage, as street theater, or in sitcom/dramedy format.

Inhalt: Folkhemmet är en metafor för ett samhälle organiserat för att ta väl hand om alla medborgare och ge dem en grundtrygghet. Begreppet har sitt ursprung i Tysklands införande av socialförsäkringar i mitten av 1800-talet. I Sverige associeras begreppet folkhemmet med Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti och Per Albin Hansson som lanserade det som begrepp i januari 1928 menande ett samhälle som är ett hem för hela folket, och präglas av samförstånd och jämlikhet: alla har samma chans på alla områden i livet. Känd är det här som ”Das schwedische Modell”. I Tyskland som i andra länder ser många fortfarande i dag folkhemmet med den socialdemokratiska välfärdspolitikens mål samt utbildningssystemet som modell trots att det genomgått många nerskäringar särkilt på den sociala planen under de senaste årtionden. Under kursens lopp ska studenterna bilda sig en egen uppfattning om Sveriges samhälle och dess realitet och kontrastera det med folkhemmets mål samt undersöker varför folkhemmet har misslyckats. I centrum av dessa undersökning står Karin Alvtegens socialkritiska deckarroman ”Saknad” (2000) och kortare texter av andra svenska samtidsförfattare som visar i sina texter att folkhemmet har fått tydliga sprickor. Dessutom pratar och diskuterar vi via skype om det svenska samhället och folkhemmet med svenska studenter vid Linnéuniversitet Kalmar/Växjö som går en B2-tyskkurs.

Inhalt: In this web-based (online) course we will examine the practical implications of the theories of intercultural communication using a range of programs in the media from TV commercials and news flashes to talk shows, TV series, and movies. The course will give students the opportunity to widen their awareness of cross-cultural differences and gender equality, and to analyze situations in which cross-cultural misunderstandings may occur. A wide range of motivating tasks will be used to focus on: - effective vocabulary learning and an extensive grammar revision based on real-life language use; - intercultural communication theories and practice through examples in the media; - analysis of cross-cultural misunderstandings and conflicts; - language learning strategies that help you to become autonomous users of English. This course is open to students of English with internet access. A face-to-face orientation session is planned at the beginning of the course to familiarize students with our Moodle platform and E-learning strategies.

Inhalt: Avec la crise qui a aujourd'hui lieu en Europe, les médias nous montrent régulièrement que l'Allemagne joue désormais un rôle de premier plan dans de nombreux pays européens. Si les médias allemands traitent de ces pays touchés par la crise en donnant d'eux une certaine image, qu'en est-il de l'image de l'Allemagne à l'étranger ? Que nous apprend la presse française sur l'Allemagne ? Comment est-elle perçue et quelles sont les raisons économiques, culturelles ou économique de cette perception ? Nous essayerons de répondre à ces questions à travers une analyse de médias français (périodiques, émissions de radio mais aussi journaux télévisés) et de voir quelles conséquences ces perceptions peuvent jouer dans la construction d'une identité européenne.

Inhalt: España es uno de los grandes productores mundiales de vino: primero en el ranking por superficie plantada, primero por producción, y segundo exportador mundial en términos de volumen, aunque tercero en términos de valor. Por su importancia en términos económicos, pero también sociales y medioambientales, así como por la importancia del vino como imagen del país en el exterior, el sector es de extraordinaria relevancia en España. En este seminario analizaremos el sector vinícola español por el gran valor económico que tiene, por el trabajo que genera entre la población rural de algunas regiones agrarias y sobre todo por el papel que desempeña en la conservación del medio ambiente. En 2011 se creó la organización Wineries for Climate Protection. Durante el seminario buscaremos respuesta a preguntas como: ¿Por qué y para qué surgió ? ¿Qué función tienen las Organizaciones No Gubernamentales (ONG) como Greenpeace, WWF, Ecologistas en Acción, Oceana y Amigos de la Tierra? ¿A qué compromisos llegó la Federación Española del Vino frente al medio ambiente?¿Qué papel juega la PAC en Europa y en concreto en España? Cuál es la postura del gobierno español frente al Medio Ambiente? ¿Qué decisiones del gobierno han tenido una repercusión positiva en el Medio Ambiente? ¿Qué función tiene el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Rural y Marino?¿Se muestra el sector vinícola sensible a la realidad del ecosistema? ¿Cómo afronta los retos de cara al futuro? Estas y otras muchas preguntas nos ayudarán a entender mejor el presente del sector vinícola y plantearnos qué cambios estructurales debería realizar el sector en un futuro inmediato con el fin de facilitar un desarrollo sostenible de la viticultura que no comprometa los recursos ni las condiciones de vida de la población rural.

Inhalt: Avec l'internationalisation des grandes entreprises, les connaissances linguistiques et les compétences interculturelles sont devenues des éléments de plus en plus importants dans le monde du travail. Dans ce cours, nous approfondirons les connaissances linguistiques - axées sur le domaine du français des affaires - et nous analyserons quelques éléments portant sur l'interculturalité dans les entreprises. Avec les résultats de nos recherches, nous irons à la rencontre de francophones travaillant dans un environnement international. Il s'agira à travers ce cours de déterminer quelles sont les compétences nécessaires au travail dans un contexte international et quelle est la meilleure manière de les acquérir.

Inhalt: Durante el semestre se tratarán de forma activa y auténtica aspectos históricos, políticos, sociales, económicos y culturales de la población mapuche en Chile. Analizaremos el presente de la comunidad mapuche chilena de Chol-Chol considerada minoría en su propio país y su relación con la lengua española. ¿Qué cuentos y leyendas trasmiten a sus pequeños? ¿En qué lengua lo hacen? ¿Se encuentran en algún punto sus propias leyendas y las que llevaban consigo los españoles a su llegada al Nuevo Mundo? Estas preguntas nos permitirán crear un puente entre dos continentes que apoyarán una reflexión sobre las consecuencias de la colonización hasta nuestros días apoyada con apoyándonos en la lectura y análisis de textos de autores machupes como Lorenzo aillapán, Pascual Coña y Elicura Chihuiaf. Los textos serán tratados desde diferentes perspectivas: textos literarios y textos de tradición oral, como con su traducción al castellano. En el análisis de los textos se tendran en cuenta las interpretaciones propias de la comunidad Mapuche y las nuestras desde Europa. Contactaremos con personajes relevantes de dicha comunidad para informarnos de la situación actual que están viviendo. Nos acercaremos a su lengua, sus tradiciones y sus formas de expresión artística. Analizaremos la presencia y el uso del idioma español dentro y fuera de la comunidad mapuche. Está previsto realizar un documental que muestre la situación actual de las reducciones mapuches en la región de Temuco.

Inhalt: Langue officielle de 29 pays et de plusieurs organisations internationales, présente sur plusieurs continents, la langue française n’a pas connu de modifications importantes de sa situation officielle ces dernières décennies. Mais qu’en est-il réellement à l’heure de la mondialisation et de la prédominance que celle-ci semble donner à l’anglais ? A quelles problématiques est-ce que la langue française se trouve aujourd’hui confrontée ? En France, dans les pays francophones, mais aussi sur la scène internationale ? Durant ce séminaire, nous reviendrons tout d’abord sur le rôle que joue la langue française pour la communauté nationale en France, mais aussi dans les autres francophonies, comme par exemple celle du Québec. Nous étudierons également les discours qui peuvent exister concernant sa défense aussi bien au niveau politique que culturel avant de faire le point sur le rôle que peut avoir une langue pour l’identité personnelle et collective. Nos réflexions prendront appui sur les travaux du sociolinguiste Louis-Jean Calvet pour le rôle des langues dans le monde d’aujourd’hui et sur les essais du linguiste Claude Hagège pour la place des langues nationales en ce début de XXIe siècle.

Inhalt: A causa de la creciente internacionalización de las grandes empresas, el plurilingüismo está presente en las relaciones comerciales y el mercado de trabajo es cada vez más multilingüe. La diversidad cultural se ha convertido en un componente esencial tanto en el mundo empresarial como en las relaciones e intercambios internacionales. La rutina diaria del trabajo exige de los empleados un entendimiento entre culturas, además del conocimiento de otras lenguas. En este seminario se reflexionará sobre las competencias lingüísticas específicas de la economía y se analizarán textos específicos sobre la competencia intercultural en las empresas. Los estudiantes tendrán la posibilidad de entrevistar en español a profesionales de empresas en la zona metropolitana de Hamburgo para ver la función que desempeña el español como lengua extranjera y de comunicación en el mundo de la empresa. Además se hablará sobre la preparación para el trabajo en un entorno tan internacional, de las habilidades que es necesario desarrollar y de cómo se pueden obtener.

In this seminar we will explore the ways in which historians and writers describe Canada’s pursuit of a specifically “Canadian” identity.

Som Erasmus-student i Sverige är det bra att veta vilka normer och beteenden man måste förstå och helst följa för att kunna leva i Sverige. Man bör veta vad som är vanligt och vad som är ovanligt, tillåtet eller förbjudet och lära sig Sveriges seder och bruk. Och vad betyder jantelagen? Under kursen ska deltagarna bekanta sig med oskruvna samhällsnormer som inte står i någon handbok, men som är ett måste för alla som ska studera och leva och integreras i Sverige. Det som är självklart för en svensk är ofta rena gåtan för en som är i Sverige för första gången. Okunskap kan leda till missförstånd som kursen kan hjälpa att undvika.

Inhalt: In this seminar, we will investigate a broad variety of representations of the environment, for example excerpts from classic environmental texts by as Henry David Thoreau or Terry Tempest Williams, photographs by Chris Jordan or Edward Burtynsky, documentary films such as _Grizzly Man_ or _An Inconvenient Truth_, or legal documents such as the Wilderness Act. By doing so, we will engage with important environmental issues such as global climate change, toxicity, plastic pollution, or environmental racism, and the political, technological, or economic solutions that have been proposed to deal with these problems. Choosing different disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, we will discuss the possibilities and potential pitfalls of environmental representations.

Sprachliche und kulturelle Besonderheiten der Fernsehkultur unter Berücksichtigung der gesellschaftlichen Ereignissen auf die Migrationsgesellschaft in Deutschland-Türkisch B2-C2 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Die Türkei gilt derzeit als so etwas wie der neue Hot Spot für internationale Sender, die auf der Suche nach spannenden Formaten sind. Die türkische TV-Industrie boomt. Auch in Deutschland werden viele türkische TV-Sender in den privaten Räumlichkeiten angeschaltet, mehr als Bedacht. Türkische Nachrichtensender, Video Kanäle und Serien sind beliebter als je zuvor. Sogar deutsche Marken senden Ihre Filme in den Werbepausen auf Türkisch. Jährlich werden 80 bis 90 türkische Serien produziert. Allein in diesem Jahr sollen Serien im Wert von 100 Millionen Dollar exportiert werden. Türkische Serien werden in über 20 Ländern mit Begeisterung verfolgt. Die Soaps sind zu einer diplomatischen Kraft geworden und verbreiten den türkischen Lifestyle. Auch in Deutschland werden die Soaps mit Begeisterung verfolgt. Allerdings mehr über den Sattelitenschüssel oder im Internet. Im Seminar werden die Fragen wie; “die Rolle der Medien im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Integration“, „die Veränderung der medialen Informations- und Unterhaltungskultur“, „die Rolle der Medien im Migrationskontext“, „Medien und Mediennutzung der türkischen Bevölkerung in Deutschland“, „die Auswirkungsprozesse der Medien auf die Migrationsgesellschaft in Hinblick der soziokulturellen / gesellschaftlichen Ereignisse“, „Medien als Sprachenvermittler“ näher untersucht. Methode: Als Seminarmethode wird insbesondere die Diskursanalyse herangezogen. Die verschiedenen Textformen, die analysiert werden (schriftlich und audiovisuell) werden sowohl in ihren Inhalten und Fakten wie in ihren sprachlichen Ausdrucksformen untersucht. Die Zusammenarbeit von Türkisch Nichtmuttersprachlern und Muttersprachlern verstärkt die Vertiefung der Sprachkenntnisse und bringt einen großen Mehrwert bei der Reflexion der gesellschaftlichen Themen.

Sustainable Business as Usual? (Englisch B2.1 - B2.2) (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: What importance does sustainability have for business? What importance could it have? From an environmental perspective it seems clear that we will not make progress towards sustainability until business gets behind this goal. As Michael Porter says, when business solves a problem, it makes a profit — which lets that solution grow. And yet from a business perspective it often seems to be enough to have consumers believe that a company is seriously engaging with sustainability – even when it is not. In the first part of this class, we will review and discuss key texts on corporate sustainability and the phenomenon of greenwashing. Then you will form small interdisciplinary groups – preferably representing business, engineering, education and the liberal arts – to research and select a best practice example of a real-life corporate sustainability project. In the same groups, after reviewing and discussing key texts on persuasion, you will then design a way to communicate its value both in a poster format and in a presentation of the poster. Finally in a plenary forum you will discuss with other groups the relative strengths and weaknesses of your respective projects. The goal of the class then is to both critically evaluate specific corporate sustainability projects and to learn to use English for persuasive communication.

Taking Care of Business: Meetings, Networking, and Trade Fairs. Englisch B2.1 - B2.2 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Business isn’t just for business majors. Whether you are studying engineering, cultural studies, sustainability or one of the other majors, you will be part of business. In other words, you will be communicating your ideas to people around the world. But are you ready? This seminar focuses on the international and virtual happenings of business. Using culturally appropriate, informative, and persuasive communication styles in spoken as well as written English is the key to successful meetings, networking, and trade fairs. Students will participate in simulated internal and virtual international meetings to create and promote their idea/product. Via networking and exchanging ideas, they will analyze and determine the level of interest for a potential launch. Finally, they will take their idea/product to a trade fair where they will present it. Specific emphasis will be placed written competencies (e.g. concise minutes from a meeting, a brief business proposal, a final progress report), oral competencies (pronunciation enhancement, rhetorical strategies for presenting) as well as culturally appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication (direct and indirect communication styles, use of gestures, time, and space). All of these aspects will be practiced by skyping with Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.
