EcoCult

In the context of this interdisciplinary project, the ecosystem services and characteristic biodiversity supported by cultural landscapes with habitat complexes containing cropland, heath and open habitat-woodland ecotones are to be quantitatively and qualitatively assessed. Furthermore novel and adaptive management and restitutive restoration practices are to be developed more

The Belgian Gagea (Gagea spathacea) in Germany

The Belgian Gagea (Gagea spathacea) has a small global distribution area with a main area in northern Germany, especially in the recent moraine landscapes of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The main objective of this study is the long-term protection of G.spathacea in Germany, and thus a long-term protection of the world’s largest populations. more

Segetal flora protection

This project address the influences of different farming methods and global climate change impacts on the re-establishment success of endangered red-listed segetal flora species in the natural reserve Lüneburg Heath in northern Germany. more

Heathland Ecosystems and Global Change

The aim of this study is to investigate the interaction effects of global change driver such as nitrogen deposition, increasing CO2-concentration, and reduced air humidity on the heathland characterizing shrub Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull. more

BEF China

The Chinese-European DFG Research Unit “BEF China” seeks to set up a new forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning experiment in subtropical forests in China. The role of tree and shrub diversity for production, erosion control, element cycling, and species conservation in Chinese subtropical forest ecosystems will investigate at new plant areas. more

Ecological function of semi-open corridors

The aim of this study was to investigate whether semi-open landscapes can act as semi-open corridors and connect two different habitat types simultaneously with each other e.g. connecting two isolated woodlands with each other, as well as connecting two isolated grasslands, and thus avoid fragmentation of either habitat type. more
